returnofthejudai:

The notion that anti-semitism is over is being absorbed by the media who has decided not to report on it. When they fail in that responsibility, it becomes harder to start a conversation about anti-semitism when most of the coverage comes from Jewish outlets no one else reads. The obvious trope, “they’re whining, they’re making it up,” come into to play. This is anti-semitism.

Automatic distrust of Jewish publications because they’re Jewish is anti-semitism. Deciding that violent attacks and murders against Jews isn’t newsworthy is an act of anti-semitism. Giving the impression that anti-semitism is over because you don’t cover anti-semitism enables anti-semitism and gives it cover.

Media apathy to what constitutes 60% of anti-religious hate crimes in the US and 50% of all racist hate crimes in France, while hate crimes against Jews in London almost doubled within a year, is giving aid and comfort to the perpetrators while feeding apathy and ignorance to the masses. It is putting us in danger. It is a failure of journalistic responsibility that has a cost in Jewish blood.

theforgottenjew:

But where are the SJWs when stuff like this is happening? If posts like this existed with any group besides Jews they’d be burning down the tumblr headquarters.

Why does Tumblr allow for these blatant attack without question? Why are the Jews the ones that always get forgotten? Why does our safety not matter?

And why is it Jewish schools? What about Jewish POC? Why is there no anger against say Catholic or Mormon schools?

You say no hate here but don’t even try to veil your anti semitism.

I don’t know how liberal Zionists can be so good when it comes to social justice issues like police brutality, racism, sexism, etc but when it comes to Israel… they just… fall short.

That’s because the Anti-Zionist movement has nothing to do with social justice. They’re an anti-semitic hate group that hijacked and infiltrated social justice movements, convincing people that hating Israel and Jews is part of opposing oppression. It doesn’t matter how progressive a Jew is, you’re not gonna convince them their homeland’s existence is akin to police brutality.

I think that the original statement is rich, considering the OP has a recommended reading/watching list that is entirely disgusting. It includes (sorry for not researching them all and not as thoroughly as I would like: I am only one person, after all):

And, of course, Omar Barghouti, the liar that created the antisemitic BDS movement.

To paraphrase OP:

I don’t know how liberal “anti-Zionists” can be so good when it comes to social justice issues like police brutality, racism, sexism, etc but when it comes to Israel… they just… fall short.

Wait, yes I do. It’s because they always end up being antisemites to varying degrees. Whether it’s simply saying that Jews are the only people on the planet not allowed to have a homeland that they care about or they’re “bad” and antisemitism doesn’t count against them, or all the way up to calls for the genocide or ethnic cleansing of Jews, they always end up being on the sliding scale.

Zionists, on the other hand, are a varied bunch of people with varied politics, belief and criticisms of Israel and the Knesset itself, but all believe in one simple thing: that Israel has the right to exist.

“Anti-Zionists,” on the other hand, are deathly silent when it comes to issues about police brutality, racism, sexism etc when it comes to the regions under Fatah or Hamas control, preferring to try and use whatever they don’t like in Israel as a reason for her not to exist, when every single other country has massive problems. No, sexism and homophobia in “Palestine” isn’t allowed to be discussed, but pro-LGBT advances in Israel is “pinkwashing.”

It can all be devolved into one, single word: antisemitism.

Antisemitic Statements, Beliefs, and Microaggressions

Why do you reblog and make posts about antisemitism if you’re catholic not jewish?

a) I blog about antisemitism because it is disgusting and tragically underacknowledged both out in the real world and here on Tumblr even in SJ circles.

Any method or axis of discrimination and oppression needs to be talked about and worked against.

b) Yes, I’m religiously Catholic.  I’m also partially ethnically Jewish.  I’m mostly Irish, Polish, and Jewish (some Ashkenazic, but mostly Sephardic from the Iberian peninsula and France, yay forced conversion -__-).

Even if I wasn’t though, that shouldn’t change anything.

One should not have to be a part of an oppressed group in order to speak up about their struggles.

Would you ask a non-muslim why the are against islamophobia?

A white person why they are against racism?

A straight person why they are against homo/bi/etc phobia?

A cis person why they are against transphobia?

A man why they are against sexism?

The list goes on.

We should always speak up about oppression, even when we aren’t the ones feeling it’s effects.

(also, I mostly reblog bc although I have ethnic ties to the Jewish community, I don’t have as much direct experience as the rest of Jumblr, so I let them take the lead)

USD Professor Leads Silent Protest Against Anti-Muslim Rhetoric – Times of San Diego

A religious studies professor at the University of San Diego
who is concerned about growing anti-Muslim rhetoric has started a
silent protest, with students and faculty wearing yellow stars
marked “Muslim.”

Bahar Davary, associate professor of theology and religious studies,
came up with the idea during her class “Islamic Faith and Practice,” an
introduction to Islam, and her students suggested several designs.

The yellow Star of David is what the Nazis required all Jews to wear prior to the Holocaust. The crescent moon and word “Muslim” draw the connection with today’s politics.

“What it symbolizes is that there have been people who have been made
to be the ‘other’ throughout history,” said Davary, an Iranian-American
whose academic specialty at the Catholic university is Islam.

Gee, if only there were a known symbol for Islam.

I barely even have the stomach to write about this anymore, it’s just too much. I am so tired of people trying to win public sympathy over OUR DEAD BODIES, and somehow I very much doubt they take seriously any actual Jewish warnings of antisemitic rhetoric.

“The Star of David is holy to all three religions.” Uh-huh, but it’s also associated with one of them, and yellow stars are very specifically associated with something really fucking specific

The thing is, this comes with some implied assumptions, all in one compact package:

1. Jews were oppressed in the past, now they’re not, we’re the new Jews.

2. Everybody cares about oppression of Jews, but not about oppression of others.  We need to show how we’re like Jews to get any attention.

3. The Star of David is a symbol of oppression, not of Jews

This all goes with “Jews whine about the Holocaust, the Holocaust wasn’t so unique, but it’s the symbol of ultimate oppression when it’s about us”.

Also, way to ignore that Jews being forced to wear identifying yellow badges was actually a practice that originated in Muslim countries centuries before the Holocaust…

STOP USING DEAD JEWISH PEOPLE AS YOUR CHEAP POLITICAL RHETORICAL DEVICES!

YOU’RE GROSS.

Not to fucking mention this bull suggests that the othering and violence against the Jewish people is somehow neatly tucked away in history and not a very real current threat.

The Magen David isn’t just some random symbol “the Nazis required all Jews to wear.”  It is an important religious symbol to the Jewish people. The Nazi’s didn’t just think it up one day.  The Magen David does not belong to oppression, it belongs to Judaism.  And the yellow star forced on the JEWISH PEOPLE by the Nazi’s belongs to the Jewish history of oppression.

If you support this, you’re being antisemitic and you need to stop.
